Grandma’s Influence
Family history influences various aspects of our lives. In my case, it inspired my guest room décor. I have a Grandmother Tribute room! The pattern of the bed quilt is aptly named “Grandmother’s Flower Garden”, more aptly because my paternal grandmother hand-stitched together all those 2-inch hexagons. Her artistic talents burst through in the splashes of color. It is framed by a crocheted bed cover that my maternal grandmother worked on intermittently for about 40 years. She’s the 13 year-old on the horse, rearing up as if trying to throw her off. That picture hangs on the wall to the right. Tough and tenacious all her life, she successfully weathered many trials.Other pictures on the wall include 2 great-grandmothers. One of them died when I was 16, so I knew her well. The other died at age 26 of an abscessed tooth, leaving 4 small children. Her baby died soon after. I look forward to meeting her someday.
