Come to an Irish Gatherin!
March is the time of year when everyone is Irish! At least we can pretend to be. As luck would have it, Heritage Consulting Genealogy Research Services will celebrate St. Paddy’s Day by hosting “An Irish Gatherin’” on March 14 and 15, 2019. The seminar will be held at the Salt Lake Plaza Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City, right next door to the world-famous Family History Library. We are excited to again welcome two very special friends and featured speakers from Ireland. The Ulster Historical Foundation’s Executive Director, Fintan Mullan, and Research Officer, Gillian Hunt, of Belfast, are both expert genealogists and entertaining lecturers. Their North American Tour this year will be a whirlwind blitz of 14 seminars within an 18-day time frame. They will be in Salt Lake City on March 14 and 15 only, to enlighten us on some of the obscure records of Ireland that are often overlooked. While Ireland has suffered the loss of many genealogical records, there are still many lesser-known collections available. Fintan and Gillian will teach us how to optimize our research strategies and achieve success in finding our Irish ancestors with such topics as:
- Introduction to Archives in Ireland and Various Websites
- Understanding Irish Townlands
- Early 19th Century Land Records
- Using Newspapers and Directories
- Irish Education and School Records
- Estate Records
The two-day seminar is only $20 per person. Lectures begin at 8:00 AM and end at Noon both days. After an hour break for lunch, Heritage Consulting, along with Fintan and Gillian, will offer one-on-one research consultations at the Family History Library from 1:00 to 5:00 both days.
